Kirrilie’s working life has been within the environmental sciences, including working as a hydrogeologist with consultancies and government departments in South Australia. She was later involved with an electrical company which undertook solar installations. Learning about renewable energy and also understanding the importance of community in 'shareable energy' allowed her to realise her passion in this area and desire to undertake further research in it. Accordingly, she undertook a PhD with the Research Node for Low Carbon Living, University of South Australia, to develop renewable energy systems for community precincts. Currently, she is undertaking an internship with TreeNET, looking at the financial benefit of the services provided by urban trees. Her aim is to combine all she has learnt and undertake further research into the potential benefits of alternative urban forms.
