Why Can't Government Be More Like Us?

We have seen an erosion of our trust in each other and our government – and it hasn’t served the vast majority of us – it’s only benefited a few very wealthy people. Today, 79% of Americans believe that government is “run by a few big interests looking out for themselves.” Back in 1964, only 29% of Americans believed that. Tens of millions of Americans have been struggling and for the first time in our nation’s history, most Americans believe their children will be worse off than them. But while it may feel like many of our elected leaders have forgotten how to take care of us, ordinary Americans haven’t forgotten how to care for each other. When most people see a person in need – a neighbor, family or even a stranger – most instinctively act. We can use that instinct to build a government and country for all of us.
